The manufacturer can conduct a self-assessment of the degree to which they meet the welding quality requirements by reviewing their following activities:
1. Is the welding coordination personnel appointed and do they have clearly defined tasks and responsibilities?
2. Has a responsible welding coordinator been appointed and is there evidence of their relevant qualifications and authority?
3. Are at least the issues listed in EN ISO 3834-2 or -3 covered when conducting product requirement evaluation and technical evaluation?
4. Are all subcontracted welding activities and services related to the product fully compliant with the requirements of EN ISO 3834-2 or -3?
5. Is there documentation showing that welders and welding operators are qualified according to the appropriate standards?
6. Is there documentation showing that the personnel performing nondestructive testing are certified in accordance with the ISO 9712 standard?
7. Are available facilities and equipment suitable for preparation, process performance, testing, manipulation, along with safety equipment and protective clothing?
8. Is there a list of equipment that will be used for the production, with a description and data on capacity and capabilities?
9. Is there a documented production plan that contains at least the elements given in EN ISO 3834-2 or -3?
10. Are there Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) made according to a certain standard and are they qualified according to the relevant standard?
11. Has a system been established for control of quality records such as WPS, welding technology qualifications and welder certificates etc.?
12. Is there a written procedure for managing consumables to ensure compliance with the manufacturer’s specification?
13. Has a system been established for marking and storing of base materials in such a way that there is no adverse impact or confusion about identification?
14. If heat treatment is required after welding, is there a written procedure, a record of the performed procedure and traceability of the record with the product showing compliance with the process?
15. Has a quality control and testing management system been established before, during and after welding?
16. Has a system been established for calibration or validation of measurement equipment, quality control and testing that is used to assess the quality of the welded structure?
17. Before the production and in agreement with the customer, is the procedure for managing nonconforming products and their repair determined and documented?
18. Are the requirements for testing the consumable batch, identification and traceability and provision of quality records determined in agreement with the customer?
